Senior Governance Adviser, UK Sport

In a 14-year career in governance for two of the UK’s biggest brands (NHS/UK Sport), Emma has driven the policy guidance agenda in the area of governance, providing technical leadership and more recently ensuring that UK Sport promotes the highest standards of governance both internally and across its funded bodies.

During her time at UK Sport, Emma has been an instrumental member in drafting the Code for Sports Governance (2015/16) and then led on its Tier 3 (highest level) review in 2021. The Code sets out the levels of transparency, diversity and inclusion, accountability and integrity that are required from those organisations who are in receipt of UK Government and National Lottery funding from UK Sport.

Emma works at Board and C-Suite level, supporting them to drive continuous and meaningful improvement in their corporate structures and processes, providing insights into the governance and negotiating and signing off on their governance action plans, as well as assessing their compliance with the Code.

Amongst a variety of qualifications, Emma qualified in Corporate Governance from the Chartered Governance Institute (ICSA) and was nominated and won a place on the Governance HOT 100. The HOT 100 recognises the 100 most innovative, influential and creative governance professionals representing all levels of experience, across each industry sector throughout the UK.

Emma is a regular keynote speaker both nationally and internationally on sports governance and governance reform programmes, sharing best practice from working at the forefront of sports governance.
