Lizzie Butcher
Club Governance and Standards Officer, Swim England
Lizzie has been working for Swim England for 2 years as a Club Governance and Standards Officer, which involves working with Clubs, Counties, Regions and affiliated organisations to support them with anything governance-related. This is her first role in sports governance having previously worked as a Sports Development Manager and coach for 8 years.
Lizzie enjoys supporting organisations to understand the importance of good governance and why it is essential to have policies and procedures in place.
In her current role Lizzie has developed a Swim England Good Governance Guide which has had over 700 views, delivered good governance workshops to over 1200 club officers (and counting), helped to introduce a Diversity and Inclusion Action plan to clubs, counties and regions as part of Club Affiliation, become part of a Project Management Group to help lead on a review for a Swim England club development tool and learnt how to swim
Lizzie credits the support and collaboration of her Swim England colleagues as well as Clubs, Counties and Regions. She says that good governance takes more than just one person to change the way things are done culturally and there is most certainly no ‘I’ in ‘team’.
Formerly a sprinter, Lizzie is now a qualified volunteer athletics coach for Southampton athletics club
