Jennifer Tong
Meet Jennifer Tong, Sports Governance and Sustainability Consultant at I Trust Sport as well as Non-Executive Director, and Chair of the Athletes’ Committee at British Weightlifting.
Jennifer Tong is a sports governance specialist with a master’s degree in Law, focusing on policy reviews and advisory work, particularly in enhancing governance and inclusion standards. Since 2023, she has been instrumental in providing strategic guidance to governing bodies, businesses, and sponsors through her work at I Trust Sport. Jennifer played a key role in the recent ASOIF Governance Review of 32 international federations, delivering comprehensive assessments and recommendations to improve governance standards across various sports. Her expertise spans Race, Gender, and Legal theory, with a commitment to promoting ethical practices in sports.
In addition to her advisory work, Jennifer serves as a Director for British Weightlifting (BWL), Chair of the BWL Athletes' Committee, and Vice Chair of the European Weightlifting Federation's Athlete Commission. She is also a member of both the BWL Nominations Committee and the BWL Performance Committee. These roles have deepened her commitment to ensuring the highest standards of governance and athlete welfare.
Jennifer is also an accomplished international athlete, coach, and national record holder. She was GB Weightlifting’s youngest National, International and Regional youth coach, joining the performance coaching team at just 21. Her career began as a qualified UK Anti-Doping educator and lead research assistant at Hallam University, where she contributed to Erasmus+ Sport programmes, focusing on knowledge exchange, building communities of practice and the development of anti-doping prevention policies.
